Thiruvananthapuram : The CBSE board examination 2027 schedule has caused concern among parents in the city as the Class X science examination and the Class XII examinations in automotive, fashion studies and NCC are scheduled for Feb 22, the day Attukal Pongala festival will be observed in the city.

On the Pongala day, thousands of women gather across the city to prepare the ritual offering and it leads to large crowds, road blockages, traffic diversions , temporary closure or limited access to several roads and disruption of public transport. It is also a local holiday in Thiruvananthapuram.

Parents fear that students may have difficulty reaching examination centres, while school buses may struggle to operate and parents may find it difficult to drop their children off.

D S Binulal , a parent, said, “An area within a radius of more than 5km around the temple will be out of bounds. I am concerned about how my daughter will attend the examination, as her science paper is scheduled for that day.”

Ibrahim Khan , chief patron of the CBSE schools management association, said the examination dates are uniform across the country. “If schools in Thiruvananthapuram submit a representation, a petition can be given to the CBSE regional office in Thiruvananthapuram,” he said.

In 2013, the CBSE rescheduled examinations in Kerala after they clashed with the Onam holidays. In 2017, it revised examination dates in Tamil Nadu as they coincided with the assembly elections.
