After the official departure of monsoon across the country, a double change is being seen in seasonal activities. While rosy morning and evening chill has hit the plains of North and North-West India, the weather is taking a turn in many parts of South and Central India due to active weather systems in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather bulletin for tomorrow i.e. Wednesday, 21 October 2026. Under this, yellow and orange alerts have been issued for strong winds (30 to 50 km/hr), thunderstorms with lightning and lightning in 6 major states including Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana. This sudden change in seasonal mood amid festivals has increased the concern of common people, travelers and organizers of Dussehra fairs. According to meteorologists, a new cyclonic circulation is developing over the North Andaman Sea and the adjacent east-central Bay of Bengal. Due to its effect, the pressure of easterly winds has increased in coastal peninsular India, due to which huge amount of moisture is flowing. Along with this, thunder and lightning clouds are being formed due to the meeting of opposite winds over Central India. Due to this weather system, intermittent heavy to very heavy rains are expected to continue over large parts of South India for the next three to four days. Kerala and Mahe: Warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms from October 21 to 24. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy increase in weather activities in Kerala and Mahe from tomorrow, October 21. Many districts of the state may receive widespread light to moderate rainfall and at some places torrential rainfall. IMD has issued a warning of thunder and lightning in sensitive hilly and coastal areas like Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki. There are chances of gusty winds at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in the coastal areas. In view of the high waves and strong winds arising from the Arabian Sea, fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the deep sea. In view of the possibility of waterlogging in low-lying areas and landslides on hill slopes, the local disaster management authority has been instructed to remain alert. Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema: Threat of thunderstorm with strong winds. There is a possibility of rain and thundershowers at many places with vigorous cloud movement over the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema areas tomorrow on October 21. According to the latest IMD report, dust storm and strong winds with speed of 30 to 40 km per hour may occur in Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Nellore, Prakasam, Anantapur and Chittoor districts with isolated heavy rains. Experts have warned that farmers working in the open sky, in fields and under trees should take special precautions, because there is a strong possibility of cloud to ground lightning during this time. Traffic and power supply may be disrupted at the local level due to breaking of electric poles and branches of old trees due to storm. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry: Yellow alert in 17 districts, preparations for rain in Chennai. Amidst rumors of North-East Monsoon becoming active, a major upheaval is being recorded in the weather of Tamil Nadu. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of heavy rain in 17 districts including Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Tiruchirappalli and Thanjavur for tomorrow, October 21. There is a possibility of dense cloudy sky throughout the day in the capital Chennai and surrounding suburban areas and there is a possibility of heavy rain and thundershowers in the afternoon or evening. Here the wind speed can reach 50 to 60 km per hour. Due to the strengthening of the cyclonic pressure, this wet weather is expected to continue in coastal Tamil Nadu till October 23. Why will the weather change suddenly in Madhya Pradesh? Know which districts will be affected: After the departure of monsoon from North India, the weather in Madhya Pradesh generally becomes dry, but due to the moisture coming from the Bay of Bengal and the effect of the trough forming over Central India, the weather will change tomorrow in the southern and south-eastern parts of the state. There is a possibility of partly cloudy sky and light rain or drizzle with thunderstorms in the afternoon in some areas of Betul, Chhindwara, Seoni, Balaghat, Khandwa, Burhanpur and Jabalpur divisions. However, the weather will remain mainly clear in Western and Northern Madhya Pradesh (Gwalior, Chambal, Bhopal and Indore), where the feeling of coolness will increase with a slight drop in the mercury at night. Karnataka and Telangana: Heavy rain and thunderstorm expected in interior areas. Moderate to heavy rain with thundershowers is expected in South Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hassan and Chamarajanagar tomorrow, October 21. North Interior Karnataka may also witness scattered rain with thunder and wind speed of 30 to 50 km/hr. Many districts of the neighboring state of Telangana, especially Hyderabad, Khammam, Warangal and Nalgonda, may witness thunderstorms and lightning during the afternoon or evening. Sudden heavy showers can cause traffic jams and waterlogging in urban areas. North India and Delhi-NCR: Pink cold will increase with sunny and dry weather. Unlike South and Central India, the weather in the national capital Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Bihar will remain completely dry and clear tomorrow. The maximum temperature in Delhi-NCR is expected to be recorded around 32 to 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be around 18 to 20 degrees Celsius. In major cities of Uttar Pradesh like Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi and Prayagraj, there will be bright sunshine during the day, while a drop in temperature will be felt due to gentle cold winds blowing during the night and morning. According to the Meteorological Department, there is currently no rain alert in the plains of North India until there is snowfall in the mountains, due to which the weather will remain completely favorable for festive shopping and outdoor events. In the six states where there is a thunderstorm alert, citizens have been advised to stay in safe places and follow administrative guidelines during the inclement weather.
