₹25,000 spent on rent and maintenance

Shivanjali said she lives in a three-BHK apartment with her college friends. Her share of the monthly rent and maintenance is ₹25,000.

She usually eats breakfast and lunch at her office, which helps reduce her daytime food expenses. For dinner, she splits the cost of a cook with her flatmates, contributing around ₹2,000 a month.

Her share of household groceries costs another ₹3,000.

Dining out, Swiggy and Zomato add ₹12,000

While eating at the office helped her save on breakfast and lunch, dining out and food delivery contributed significantly to her monthly spending.

“And of course, all the random dining-outs, Swiggy and Zomato orders added up to ₹12K,” she said.

House help and travel expenses

Shivanjali spends around ₹1,000 as her share of the cost of a house help who assists with cleaning and other household chores.

For commuting, she said she primarily uses her bike and spent around ₹3,000 on petrol during September. Her expenses on autos and cabs came to an additional ₹4,000.

₹6,000 on subscriptions

Her monthly expenses also included several digital subscriptions. AI tools, iCloud, OTT platforms and other subscriptions together cost her around ₹6,000.

Shopping and personal care cost ₹7,000

Shopping, personal care and miscellaneous expenses also formed a part of her monthly budget.

“Finally, shopping, personal care, and all those random miscellaneous expenses came to around ₹7K,” she said.

Total September spending: ₹63,000

After adding up all the expenses, Shivanjali said she spent a total of ₹63,000 in September.
