Story of Radha Ashtami

The story to the birth of Radha ji has been told in the religious text Padma Purana. According to which, one day in Dwapar Yuga, Vrishabhanu ji had gone to take bath in Yamuna river. At the same time, Vrishabhanu ji found a very beautiful girl in a lotus flower. After which Brahma Dev appeared near the Yamuna river, who told Vrishabhanu ji that in his previous life Vrishabhanu ji had performed hard penance so that he could get Lakshmi ji as his daughter. Brahma ji also told that the girl who was born in the lotus leaves is a form of Lakshmi ji. Vrishabhanu ji became very happy after knowing this.

Vrishabhanu ji and his wife Kirtida had no children. For this reason, Vrishabhanu ji picked up the girl in his lap and took her home. After seeing the girl, Kirtida ji's happiness knew no bounds. Kirtida ji performed religious rituals. Also donated to Brahmins and cows.

Why was Radha Rani born?

A story is told in Brahmavaivarta Purana about the birth of Radha Rani. According to which, Radha Rani and Lord Krishna lived in Golok Dham. Then once Radha Rani was not with Shri Krishna due to some work. So in the absence of Radha ji, Krishna was strolling with his friend Virja. Seeing this, Radha Rani became very angry and started saying harsh words to Lord Krishna.

Seeing this, Shri Krishna's dear friend Shridama became sad. When Shridama started getting angry on Radha ji, then he cursed Radha ji that she would have to leave Goloka and take birth in the earth world. According to religious experts, it was due to this curse that Radha ji was born on earth. Whereas due to the curse, Shridama had to be born as a demon named Shankhchud.

When Sridama had cursed, Sri Krishna told Radha Rani that she would be born on earth as the daughter of Vrishabhanu ji and Kirtida Devi. After which she was married to Rayana, who is an incarnation of Shri Krishna. After spending time on earth, Radha ji went back to Goloka.
