The first match of the 2-Test series between India and Sri Lanka was played in Galle. In this match, Team India registered a big win by 165 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series. Chasing the difficult target of 372 runs, the Sri Lankan team was reduced to 206 runs on the fifth day (19 August). Manav Suthar took 6 wickets in the second innings. He took 4 wickets in the first innings. In this way he completed his 10 wicket haul in the match.
The Sri Lankan team started its second innings on the fifth day with a score of 84/4. His target was not to win the match but to draw it. The host team also showed fighting spirit in the first session. He lost only 2 wickets till lunch. Captain Dhananjay de Silva (59) played a half-century. Ravindra Jadeja gave India its first success of the day by dismissing him. Prasidh Krishna got Niroshan Dickwella caught behind the wicket. Although Sonal Dinusha was frozen at the crease. This batsman, who had scored a century in the first innings, was again moving towards triple digits but after lunch, he became the victim of Suthar on his personal score of 84.

After this, Suthar took the remaining 3 wickets of Sri Lanka in just 9 balls and gave India a memorable victory in this rain-affected match. Prasidh Krishna took 2 wickets. Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja had 1-1 wickets in their account.
India won the toss and batted first and scored 462 runs. Due to rain, the first innings of the Indian team lasted for two full days. Team India's innings ended in the first over of the third day. Devdutt Padikkal scored the highest score of 167 runs. KL Rahul played an inning of 82 runs. Dhruv Jurel contributed 51 runs, while Rishabh Pant contributed 39 runs and Yashasvi Jaivasal contributed 32 runs.
The Sri Lankan team could score only 284 runs in its first innings. Dinusha scored 100 runs. Whereas Niroshan Dickwella scored 80 runs. Indian bowlers had taken 5 wickets of Sri Lanka for 90 runs only. After this, Dinusha and Dickwella made a partnership of 146 runs and got them out of trouble. However, as soon as this pair broke, the Sri Lankan team's innings fell apart and was reduced to 284. India took a lead of 178 runs on the basis of first innings. Suthar took 4 wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets. Kulidap Yadav, Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took 1 wicket each.
After taking a big lead, India lost 5 wickets for 120 runs in the second innings. Padikkal scored 44 and Rahul scored 35 runs. Rishabh Pant's important inning of 66 runs in 69 balls took the game score to 193 runs, due to which India set a target of 372 runs in front of Sri Lanka, which proved to be impossible for them. The second Test of the series will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo from August 23.
