A major accident occurred on National Highway 53 in Odisha’s Kendrapada district amid continuous heavy rains. A newly constructed section of the highway between Paradip and Chandikhol collapsed near Nilachal Bazar in Marshaghai. Three passing trucks overturned and fell to the ground on the side of the road. Construction work was going on on the highway at the time of the incident. The collapse of the new stretch of road created chaos at the scene and affected vehicular movement.



Amid continuous rains, potholes suddenly appeared on the newly constructed section of NH-53 near Neelachal Bazar. A part of the road collapsed within seconds. Photos from the scene show a submerged portion of the road. The ground beneath the road also seems to have been affected. Meanwhile, three trucks lost their balance, overturned and fell on the side of the road.


Highway construction was going on in the part where the road collapsed. Part of the road was newly built and construction was underway. The sudden collapse of the road amid incessant rains has raised questions about the highway’s strength and construction condition. However, official information about the actual cause of the collapse is yet to come out. Due to this stretch of NH-53, vehicular movement in the area has been affected. After the road collapsed and the trucks overturned, there has been a problem regarding safe traffic on this road.
