Rainfall is expected to continue in most parts of Uttar Pradesh for the next 4 days. Regional Meteorological Center of India Meteorological Department, Lucknow has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in various districts of the state.
Highest rainfall in Sitapur, Gorakhpur also drenched
During the last 24 hours, the maximum rainfall of 124.6 mm in eastern Uttar Pradesh was recorded at Bhatpurwaghat in Sitapur. Apart from this, 101.8 mm rainfall was recorded in Badarghat of Gorakhpur, 85.6 mm in Naimisharanya of Sitapur, 81.8 mm in Kannauj, 77 mm in Mirzapur tehsil and 72.1 mm in Chhibramau. There was 68.2 mm rainfall in Ankinghat of Kanpur city, 52.1 mm rainfall in Nichlaul of Maharajganj, 52 mm rainfall in Bansgaon of Gorakhpur and 51.8 mm rainfall in Jaunpur CWC.
Clouds rained heavily in Lucknow and Prayagraj
In the capital Lucknow, 48.4 mm rainfall was recorded at Amausi center and 36.2 mm rainfall was recorded at the Central Observatory. 41 mm rainfall was recorded in Meja of Prayagraj, 33.8 mm in Prayagraj PBO and 32 mm in Koraon. Many districts including Barabanki, Balrampur, Chitrakoot, Azamgarh, Ghazipur and Sant Kabirnagar also received good rainfall.
Record breaking rain in Moradabad in Western UP
In western Uttar Pradesh, the highest rainfall of 89.2 mm was recorded in Bilari of Moradabad. Apart from this, 50.9 mm rainfall was received in Tanda town of Rampur, 34.5 mm in Moradabad, 34.2 mm in Etawah, 29.2 mm in Jhansi and 24.5 mm in Chandausi of Sambhal. 20 mm rainfall was recorded in Konch of Jalaun and 13.2 mm rainfall was recorded in Orai.
Very heavy rainfall expected on 16th and 17th August
According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places in both parts of the state on August 15. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in many districts of Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh on August 16 and 17, while heavy rainfall is likely to continue on August 18 as well.
Meteorological Department issued alert for these districts
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Chitrakoot, Banda, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Bahraich, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Mahoba and surrounding areas from Saturday to Sunday. Apart from this, there is a possibility of thunder and lightning in many districts including Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mathura, Agra, Bareilly, Sambhal, Badaun, Jhansi and Lalitpur.
Danger of flood and waterlogging, advice from meteorological department
The Meteorological Department has warned that due to heavy rainfall, situations like sudden rise in the water level of rivers and reservoirs, waterlogging in low-lying areas, damage to kutcha houses, disruption in road traffic and flash floods at some places may arise. People have been advised to stay away from rivers, streams and water-logged areas and avoid unnecessary travel during inclement weather.
