If you get 7-8 hours of sleep every day, yet still feel tired, lethargic, or weak upon waking, it’s something you shouldn’t ignore. Many people believe that sleeping longer will refresh your body, but that’s not always the case. The real difference lies more in the quality of sleep than in the number of hours.

According to experts, poor sleep, stress, lack of nutrition and some hidden diseases can be the reasons due to which the body does not get rest even after getting adequate sleep.

Is just 8 hours of sleep enough?

Doctors say that 7 to 8 hours of sleep is sufficient for most people. However, if sleep is interrupted frequently or if sleep is not deep, the body and mind do not get complete rest. This can lead to fatigue even after waking up in the morning.

What problems can be the reason?

Sometimes, certain sleep disorders prevent the body from resting properly. These include sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and frequent awakenings during the night. These problems can prevent deep, restorative sleep.

Is mental stress also responsible?

Persistent stress, anxiety, and depression can also impair sleep quality. This can leave a person feeling tired even after a full night’s sleep. Stress can also disrupt the body’s hormonal balance, leading to a lack of energy throughout the day.

Which habits disturb sleep?

Using mobile or laptop before sleeping, drinking tea, coffee or alcohol late in the evening, smoking, not exercising regularly and sleeping and waking up at different times every day, all these habits can affect the quality of sleep.

When should one consult a doctor?

If fatigue, excessive daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, frequent headaches, memory loss, or difficulty concentrating persist for 2 to 4 weeks even after adopting good sleep habits, you should consult a doctor. If necessary, a blood test, sleep study, or other tests may be recommended.
