The likes of Majorca and Ibiza seem to continue to dominate the conversation around Spain’s best beaches, but wouldn’t you rather find yourself somewhere that nobody else knows about?

In order to uncover those hidden gems in Europe, Iglu Cruise researched the most popular beaches in each country, Spain included, based on Tripadvisor data. Their rankings were done by the percentage of five-star (excellent) reviews each beach received, and as a result, they gave each destination a rating out of 100.

While you may expect to see some of the biggest holiday hotspots on here, such as Playa de la Concha outside of Bilbao or Platja Illetes in the Balearic Islands, there was only one Spanish spot that made the list.

Playa de las Conchas beach on the tranquil island of La Graciosa made the top 10 in four places, making a statement as the most worthy of a visit in the country. With an overall score of 82% based on five-star reviews and an average summer temperature of a hot-to-go 28 degrees, it’s no wonder people dream of returning to this place.

It sits as a real treasure trove along the coast of La Graciosa, a less popular Canary Island located right next to the much-loved Lanzarote.

It wasn’t hard to remain a well-kept secret, as the beach is increasingly more difficult to reach, taking 45 minutes to reach on foot from the main town and a 20-minute bike ride away. And yet, visitors would argue it’s worth every minute.

The beach’s vast volcanic landscape, white sands and transparent waters offer an escape from the typical tourist-heavy and commercialised resorts you’re used to seeing in Spain. This spot resonates with travellers keen to have a sense of peace and seek out wild and natural beauty.

Having seen it for themselves, one person’s Tripadvisor review reads: “I absolutely believe it is the most beautiful beach I have ever seen.The colours you see in this place are truly unrepeatable. You can get there by bike or jeep. I do not recommend walking because from the port the road is all under the sun (and it takes a lot).”

Another person claimed: “Spectacular beach, with hardly any sightseeing, with golden sand and crystal-clear waters… I recommend visiting this beach as it is the most beautiful in La Graciosa.”

In order to explore it all outside of the beach, travellers tend to rent a mountain bike to find even more uncovered spots or even hike the nearby Montaña Bermeja for panoramic views.

If it is just a day trip you fancy, visiting Graciosa is possible from Lanzarote by opting to take the ferry, a maximum 25-minute journey taking you from the port of Órzola. Typically, this journey costs around 28 euros for an adult return ticket, and according to reviews, it’s well worth it.

One recent traveller wrote: “A truly wild island, which is fully enjoyed by arriving on the first ferries of the morning. By taxi to the beach of La Francesa and then on foot to La Cocita. The excursion is worth it.”
