The holy month of Sawan holds special significance for the worship of Lord Shiva and fasting. During this period, a large number of devotees observe fasts on Mondays and consume a fruit-based diet. If you’re looking to try something new and delicious this time, a fruit-based sandwich is a great option. It’s both delicious and nutritious and ready in just a few minutes.
Ingredients for a fruit-based sandwich
Kuttu or water chestnut flour
A little yogurt
2 boiled potatoes
100 grams of paneer (grated)
1-2 finely chopped green chilies (optional)
2 tablespoons of finely chopped coriander leaves
1/2 teaspoon of black pepper powder
Rock salt to taste
1-2 tablespoons of ghee
Vrat green chutney or yogurt (for serving)
How to make fruit-based bread
First, prepare a batter that’s neither too thick nor too thin by mixing the buckwheat or water chestnut flour with yogurt, a little rock salt, and water as needed. Spread the batter on a sandwich maker or non-stick pan, lightly grease it with ghee, and bake for 1-2 minutes. Your fruit bread is ready.
Method for preparing the stuffing
In a large bowl, combine mashed potatoes, grated paneer, rock salt, black pepper, green chilies, and coriander leaves. Mix well. You can also add roasted peanut powder to enhance the flavor.
Method for making the sandwich
Spread the potato-paneer stuffing evenly on one slice of the prepared bread and place it on the other. Brush both sides with a little ghee and bake in a pan or sandwich maker over low to medium heat until golden and crispy.
If desired, you can prepare the sandwich by spreading a layer of batter on top of the stuffing while making the bread, then adding another layer of batter.
Method for serving
Cut the hot fruit sandwich into triangles and serve with yogurt, fasting green chutney, or fresh fruit. Sprinkling lightly roasted cumin powder or black pepper on top enhances its flavor.
