Teenage Indian batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi described his Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards as a “dream come true” after helping India complete a 3-0 T20I series sweep against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday.

Sooryavanshi played a match-winning knock of 81 off 49 balls in the final T20I, guiding India to a commanding 192/5 before the visitors restricted Zimbabwe to 157/7 to seal a 35-run victory.

Reflecting on his performance, the young left-hander said winning his first individual awards at the international level was a special moment.

“Yes, it’s truly a dream come true moment. Getting my first Man of the Match and Man of the Series awards, I’m very happy,” Sooryavanshi said after the series.

The Zimbabwe tour proved to be a breakthrough outing for the teenager, who registered his first two T20I half-centuries during the three-match series. He credited the team’s preparation and support from the captain and coaching staff for his success.

“It felt really good. Our preparation was very good during the two or three days after we arrived in Harare. I also played the Under-19 World Cup here, so I really enjoy playing at this venue. Everyone backed me – the captain, the coaches, everyone – so I’m very happy,” he said.

Known for his attacking approach at the top of the order, Sooryavanshi said his focus was not just on aggressive stroke play but also on providing India with a strong start and converting it into a big innings.

“My game is the same as what I play in T20 cricket. I was just trying to do that for the team. In all three matches, I tried to give the team a good start. If I got a good start, then I wanted to make the innings bigger,” he said.

The youngster added that he aimed to replicate the shots he practices during training sessions when performing on the international stage.
