Smaller guest lists, intentional venues, menus, and thoughtfully curated experiences. For many, weddings are becoming personal. So, it’s only right that the choice of jewellery be understated yet distinct, and contemporary yet timeless.

Metal for modern couples

If you want a clean and contemporary aesthetic, platinum gives you just that. Think diamond necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and rings that don’t scream. Whether you are wearing an ivory sari or a Banarasi one, a structured lehenga or a chikankari one, a cocktail gown or a sharp pantsuit, the white metal fits right in. The best part? It won’t compete with your outfits but complement them. Just remember to put less emphasis on excess and more on craftsmanship and design. “Today’s consumers are making more conscious buying decisions. They are looking for jewellery that speaks to their personal style as opposed to following convention. Platinum aligns with this mindset,” says Aditya Modak, COO & CFO of P. N. Gadgil & Sons.

Picture perfect

The quiet luxury movement that puts focus on quality, craftsmanship and longevity has further changed the perception around platinum. According to Platinum Guild International, the new-age luxe metal has seen a 4% overall demand growth in India with retail sales up by 10-15% in 2025. The metal photographs well, too, in both daylight and night-time. “Platinum has a balanced, neutral reflection and doesn’t throw harsh hotspots or distracting glare the way highly polished metals sometimes do. It holds detail beautifully, whether we are shooting in soft window light, harsh midday sun, or under mixed lighting at a wedding. It looks consistent throughout the day, and photographs elegantly,” says Himanshu Patel, founder, of Epic Stories.

Pair it right

What pairs best with platinum are diamonds, of course. “Platinum’s natural white finish enhances diamonds without competing for attention, making it a good choice for engagement rings, wedding bands and fine jewellery,” adds Aditya. A classic solitaire necklace set in platinum will work just as effortlessly with a silk sari during the wedding ceremony as it will with an evening gown years later. Diamond studs, and tennis bracelets set in platinum, or sleek platinum bangles will become your wardrobe staples beyond the wedding celebrations. If you want to go beyond diamonds, then an emerald-platinum pairing, or a sapphire and ruby combination will stand out against the metal’s cool and neutral canvas. You can experiment with mixed-metal combinations, too, by pairing platinum with rose or yellow gold for a modern contrast.

The platinum groom

Platinum complements a groom’s outfits just right, whether it’s a wedding band, subtle chain, cufflinks, a bracelet or a brooch. A platinum brooch, for instance, when set with emerald or diamond, can become the focal point of a groom’s safa or lapel.
