In Jaipur, Sumit Godara, the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, announced that the 'Give Up' campaign has successfully provided food security to 9.9 million genuine beneficiaries in the state. He highlighted that this initiative is the second of its kind in the country, receiving praise from both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister.
During a beneficiary conference held in the Kolayat Panchayat Samiti auditorium in Bikaner district, Godara explained that the campaign was launched on November 1, 2024, to ensure food security for those in need. Following the government's call, 6.7 million individuals voluntarily opted out of the program, while 2.7 million did not complete the e-KYC process, allowing 9.9 million actual beneficiaries to access the scheme. He noted that a similar campaign was previously run by the central government for the Ujjwala scheme, where 11.6 million people voluntarily relinquished their subsidies. This initiative has provided significant support to the residents of the state, earning recognition from national leaders.
Godara mentioned that only 18,000 individuals in Kolayat have benefited from this program. To ensure that no poor person is left out, he instructed the launch of a special campaign to connect more beneficiaries to the scheme. He added that for the first time, the Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma will open the NFSA portal on January 26, 2025, allowing new individuals to be added continuously. Efforts are being made to include genuine beneficiaries at the last mile. He also stated that to prevent NFSA beneficiaries from making repeated trips for wheat, consumers will now receive three months' worth of wheat in one go.
The Food Minister assured that despite the adverse international conditions arising from the US-Iran conflict, there would be no disruption in the supply of cooking gas in the state. He mentioned that the supply of cooking gas has been restricted without OTP and entry in the passbook, resulting in a daily reduction of approximately 100,000 cooking gas cylinders and increased transparency in distribution. He also noted that for the first time, ration dealers are receiving their commissions on time, providing them with much-needed support.
Godara emphasized his commitment to the concept of 'Developed Lunkaransar, Educated Lunkaransar.' He highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including the construction of nearly two dozen new transformers and significant investments in water sustainability. Improvements have also been made in school facilities and hospital management. He reiterated that the comprehensive development of the region is his top priority, and he is continuously working towards it. Godara initiated beneficiary conferences in April, with previous events held in Nokha, Khajuwala, and Shri Dungargarh.
On this occasion, Godara acknowledged the contributions of the late former MP Mahendra Singh Bhati towards regional development and assured former head Jayveer Singh Bhati that he would soon meet with the Chief Minister regarding the demand to clear aquatic vegetation from the Kolayat Sarovar. He promised that necessary machinery would be provided for this purpose, ensuring that there would be no shortage of funds. He also mentioned that the region is a center of faith for millions of devotees connected to the sage Kapil Muni, emphasizing the deep-rooted sentiments of the people. During the event, he distributed food security certificates to beneficiaries.
