New Delhi: The effect of monsoon is visible differently in different states across the country. While the pace of rain has slowed down in some areas, warnings of heavy rain, thunderstorm and storm have been issued in many states within the next few hours. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the next 12 hours may be challenging for many states. During this period, there is a possibility of strong winds blowing at a speed of 70 to 75 kilometers per hour.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain and strong thunderstorm for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Assam and other northeastern regions. Situation of lightning and waterlogging may also occur at many places.
According to IMD, there may be heavy to very heavy rain in many parts of Bihar, West Bengal and North-Eastern states for the next two to three days. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy rain at some places in Eastern Uttar Pradesh during the next four to five days. Meteorologists say that the effect of the cyclonic circulation formed around northern Bangladesh will be seen in these areas.
At present there are less chances of rain in Delhi-NCR. The weather is likely to remain mainly dry for the next four days. However, there may be light drizzle around July 17 and there are indications of good rains returning again by July 20.
Red alert of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued for many hilly areas of Uttarakhand. At the same time, in many districts of Bihar, heavy rains along with winds at a speed of up to 70 kilometers per hour are expected. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather.
In view of the possibility of bad weather in the Arabian Sea, the Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to go into the sea till July 15 or to exercise extreme caution. During this period, strong winds can blow in the sea at a speed of up to 55 kilometers per hour.
Experts have appealed to people to stay in safe places during bad weather, stay away from open fields during lightning and follow the guidelines issued by the administration. In areas where heavy rain alert has been issued, there is a possibility of waterlogging and traffic getting affected.
