The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasing rapidly in India (AI Boom in India), but foreign companies are getting the biggest benefit from it. OpenAI Companies like (ChatGPT) and Anthropic (Claude) are earning at least Rs 1000 crore annually from Indian users. It is estimated that about 10 crore people are using AI in the country, out of which about 1 percent of the users are taking paid subscription.
10 lakh users are paying AI Boom in India
According to OpenAI data, 10 crore Indians are using AI. Of these, about 10 lakh users pay Rs 400 to Rs 19 thousand every month. Based on an average monthly expenditure of Rs 800, the annual income of foreign AI companies from India is reaching around Rs 960 crore.
India leads the world in AI downloads
India’s share in AI app downloads globally is about 20 percent. For this reason, companies like OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity are bringing low-cost subscription plans for the Indian market. Perplexity has also introduced a special plan of $2.5 for Indian users.
Young people aged 18 to 35 are the biggest users.
More than 65 percent of AI users in India are in the age group of 18 to 35 years. Experts believe that in the initial phase, companies are creating habit of users by providing free services and later they will gradually move towards paid model.
Domestic AI models still behind
According to experts, Indian AI models like Sarvam, Bharat GPT and Bharat Zen are not yet able to compete with the large language models (LLM) of OpenAI and Anthropic (AI Boom in India). Himanshu Kumar, founder of Taxbot GPT, which develops GST-based AI solutions, says that he spends about $ 400 (about Rs 38 thousand) every month on foreign AI services, because at present there is no domestic option of their level available.
Speed of work increased manifold due to AI
According to Anthropic’s report, the use of AI has significantly improved the productivity of professionals. The work which earlier used to take an average of 3.8 hours is now being completed in about 15 minutes with the help of AI.
