Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon spoke about being compared to Deepika Padukone and explained why their characters in Cocktail are different. She shared her thoughts during the Times Now podcast Baatein Dil Sesaying that although people draw similarities between the roles, each character has a unique personality and journey. Kriti Sanon spoke about the biggest discussion around her new film Cocktail 2 during Baatein Dil Se. Speaking to Navika Kumar, the National Award-winning actress addressed comparisons with Deepika Padukone, whose role as Veronica is still loved by fans. Kriti said she expected these comparisons from the day she signed the film, but never let them affect her performance.

She also praised Deepika and called her portrayal unforgettable. The actress admitted that joining such a popular franchise brings pressure, but she decided to focus only on doing her best and bringing something fresh and honest to the character on screen.

Kriti Sanon Expected Comparisons With Deepika Padukone

During Baatein Dil Se With Navika Kumar, Kriti admitted she expected comparisons the moment she signed the sequel. The actress said she knew audiences would naturally compare her performance with others. “Kabhi bhi agar aap sequel karte ho kisi bhi film ka ya franchise ka next part karte ho where all the actors have completely changed and the characters are also different, you are bound to be compared because especially when someone really left a big mark in the previous one.”

The actress praised the strong impact Deepika Padukone made with Veronica in Cocktail. Kriti said the character left a lasting impression on audiences and continues to be remembered and loved by many. “Deepika did (leave a big mark). I think she was brilliant in Cocktail. And it also started a new journey for her. It was kind of a milestone for her and we remember Veronica as a character.”

Kriti said she never felt pressured to recreate Veronica because the script clearly showed her character was different, making it easier to ignore public expectations and play the role confidently. “I never took that pressure on because the moment I heard the script, I knew that Ally was not Veronica or was not even trying to be Veronica,” revealed Kriti.

In a conversation with Filmfare, Kriti Sanon spoke about playing Ally in Cocktail 2. Joining a franchise celebrated for its memorable characters, the actress revealed how she approached a role that beautifully blends an edgy personality with a carefree and free-spirited charm. Kriti Sanon explained that while audiences may initially spot similarities between the characters, their personalities and life journeys make them completely different women with distinct identities and experiences altogether.

“Yes, both are extremely free-spirited and very modern and bad in their own ways. But as personalities, they were very different. They have had very different upbringings. What they do in the film, their journey in the film and their arc in the film is so different,” Kriti mentioned.
