After India’s embarrassing defeat in the first T20 match against Ireland, opener Sanju Samson’s batting has come under question. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has made a big comment about Sanju Samson, who was out after scoring only 5 runs. He believes that now Sanju Samson needs to be very cautious, because young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi is all set to take his place.

In the first T20 match played between India and Ireland in Belfast, the Indian team had to face defeat by 34 runs. With this defeat, India had to face defeat against Ireland for the first time in T20 international cricket.

Manjrekar gave a clear warning

During the conversation after the match, Sanjay Manjrekar said that the pressure on both Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma has increased now.

He said, “Sanju Samson needs to be careful as Vaibhav Suryavanshi is waiting to replace him and Abhishek Sharma.”

Manjrekar believes that with the arrival of young players in the Indian team, competition has increased significantly and it will not be easy for poorly performing players to retain their place in the team.

Should Vaibhav Suryavanshi have got a chance?

However, Manjrekar also admitted that even if Vaibhav Suryavanshi had played in the first T20 match, the result of the match might not have changed much.

He said that the target in front of the Indian team was very big and it was necessary to bat aggressively in the first six overs only.

Manjrekar said, “I think Vaibhav would probably have done a little better than Abhishek Sharma, but the conditions were not easy. The target was big and it was important to maintain the same pace throughout the innings.”

He also reminded that even during the triangular series held in Dambulla, Vaibhav Suryavanshi had to face difficulties in hitting big shots.

Indian batting flopped badly in the first T20

The batting of the Indian team completely faltered in the very first match.

Sanju Samson was out after scoring just 5 runs in four balls. The rest of the batsmen also failed to make a big partnership and the entire team was all out for 148 runs.

For Ireland, Matthew Hallard and Matthew Humphreys broke the back of Indian batting by taking three wickets each.

Bad start of Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy

After winning the T20 World Cup, India took the field for the first time under the captaincy of new captain Shreyas Iyer, but the team got a disappointing start.

Indian bowlers also failed to stop Ireland from scoring big, while the batting completely disintegrated under pressure.

Will there be a big decision in the second T20?

Now the second and final match of the series has become like ‘do or die’ for the Indian team.

If Sanju Samson once again fails to play a big innings, then the team management can seriously consider giving a chance to young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the next matches.

Along with saving the series for the Indian team, everyone’s eyes will also be on the performance of the players, because many big tournaments are to be played in the coming months and the battle to retain a place in the team is continuously intensifying.
