After securing top spot in Group F with a 3-1 victory over Tunisia on June 25 at Kansas City Stadium, Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman has highlighted Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi as the main threat ahead of the round of 32 clash against Morocco.
The Dutch concluded the group stage unbeaten, recording two wins and a draw, while Tunisia exited the tournament without a win. The upcoming match against Morocco is scheduled for June 30 in Monterrey.
Morocco, who became the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals in 2022, are expected to provide a stern challenge. Speaking to NOS as quoted by Goal.com, Koeman said about Hakimi, “He is the star man and a very good right-back, so we have to prepare ourselves very well for him.”
Defender Jean Paul Van Hecke expressed his anticipation for the fixture, stating he is “enormously looking forward” to the encounter. “These are the games you want to play at a World Cup. I think it is going to be a very heated match,” he added.
Captain Virgil van Dijk also shared his expectations, describing Morocco as “a great team with a lot of footballing quality, but also a team that is vulnerable.”
Midfielder Frenkie de Jong commented on Morocco’s recent performance against Brazil, stating it left a “strong impression” on him. “Of course, they reached the semifinals at the last World Cup, and I think they have a few very good players. It is going to be a beautiful match,” he concluded.
