Petrol-Diesel Restrictions: The government has issued a new order regarding oil. Under this order, bulk buyers will no longer be able to purchase oil from retail pumps and will only be able to purchase from bulk sale points.
Government's new rules for petrol pumps
Petrol-Diesel Limit: To prevent revenue losses for state-owned oil companies, the government has completely banned the purchase of fuel in bulk at petrol pumps. This means that under the new rules, wholesale buyers will no longer be able to purchase fuel from retail petrol pumps.
Malls, hospitals, large factories, travel agencies, and private bus operators, which previously purchased diesel in bulk from retail pumps, will no longer be able to do so. They will only be allowed to purchase diesel from bulk sale points.
What is the limit fixed?
Additionally, a maximum daily limit of 200 liters per vehicle has been set. Consequently, the general public and even small commercial vehicles will not be able to purchase more than 200 liters of diesel at petrol pumps at one time or in a single day.
This decision will prevent large crowds and sudden fuel shortages at regular petrol pumps, ensuring easy fuel access for ordinary motorists. Meanwhile, last Friday, news of the US-Iran agreement brought the international price of crude oil down below $86 per barrel.
Why was the ban imposed?
This time, the sale of diesel has been specifically restricted. The notification states, "Retail outlet dealers will only dispense HSD (High Speed Diesel or Diesel) in vehicle tanks or PESO-approved containers. No more than 200 liters of diesel will be dispensed to a customer or vehicle per day, and this HSD cannot be resold." This order is effective immediately and is valid for a maximum of three months.
Officials and executives of state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs), speaking on condition of anonymity, said the move was taken to ensure the availability of petrol and diesel to genuine consumers and prevent diversion of auto fuels, as there is a significant difference between the pump price and the wholesale price. Diesel is priced at ₹95.20 per liter at pumps in Delhi, while the wholesale price is ₹134.50 per liter.
