In which BCCI sources have been quoted, Kohli has suffered a hamstring injury and is not likely to play in any match. BCCI has not yet issued any official statement on this matter.
Selected in the team, but now out
The Indian squad for the Afghanistan ODI series was announced on 19 May, with both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma included. Less than three weeks later, reports suggested that Kohli would be out of the entire series due to his injury.
BCCI sources told PTI that the former Indian captain has suffered a hamstring problem, due to which he had to be ruled out even before the start of the series.

The three-match ODI series between India and Afghanistan will start from June 13.
1st ODI: 13 June – Dharamshala
Second ODI: 17 June – Lucknow
Third ODI: 20 June – Chennai
In the absence of Kohli, Team India will have to make changes to its batting lineup for this series.
Fans will have to wait longer for Virat to return to ODI cricket.
Virat Kohli recently played an important role in helping Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) win their second consecutive IPL title in 2026. He finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer for RCB with 675 runs and once again showed his class with the bat.
After his stellar performance in the IPL, fans were eagerly waiting to see him make a comeback in ODI cricket. However, this injury has delayed his much-awaited comeback, leaving fans disappointed.
Concern increased about Rohit Sharma’s fitness
After the news of Kohli’s exit, everyone’s attention has now shifted to Indian captain Rohit Sharma. It is reported that Rohit is also struggling with fitness problems, due to which questions are being raised on his availability in the entire series.
