A big news to Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is coming for crores of employed people of the country. If you are also constantly checking your PF Passbook and you have not seen the interest money yet, then this news is for you only. EPFO has decided to retain the strong interest rate of 8.25% on the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) for the financial year 2025-26. This big decision was announced in March 2026, after which lakhs of PF account holders are eagerly waiting for the interest amount to be transferred to their account.
Let us tell you that in the first week of March 2026, EPFO had officially announced to continue the interest rate of 8.25% on PF for the financial year 2025-26. According to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the Central Board of Trustees (CBT) of EPFO had recommended 8.25% annual interest on PF deposits for this financial year, which has been given the green signal by the government.
The biggest question in the minds of PF members waiting for money is that when will this amount appear in their account. At present EPFO has not announced any fixed date for interest transfer. According to the information received from the Ministry, as soon as the official notification is issued by the Government of India, the interest amount will be directly credited to your PF account. Therefore, the employees will have to wait a little longer.
Many people think that the money should come as soon as the financial year ends in March, but it does not happen. According to experts, the entire process of crediting interest involves the huge work of final approval from the government, matching of accounts of employers across the country and digitally updating crores of PF accounts simultaneously. This entire technical process takes several weeks.
BankBazaar.com CEO Adil Shetty has given important information on this. He told that even if the entry of interest is not visible in your passbook yet, the calculation of interest on your entitled amount is continuously happening on the backend. PF members just have to wait for the update “Int. Updated up to 31/03/2026” to appear in their passbook.
If we talk about last year i.e. 2025, then the interest money was transferred to the accounts of a large number of PF members during the months of June and July. Experts say that earlier this government process used to drag on till September or October, but now due to the digital system of EPFO, it has increased a lot. It is expected that this year too, money will start appearing in the accounts by the end of June or July, although the final date will completely depend on the notification of the government.
If you have a fear in your mind that there will be loss if the money gets delayed, then be completely worry free. it’s not like that at all. Under the strict rules of EPF Scheme 1952, interest is calculated on the basis of ‘monthly running balance’. This simply means that even if the interest entry appears in your passbook even after two-three months, you will still get every penny of interest. Not even a single rupee is deducted from your interest amount due to administrative or technical delays.
When the interest money starts transferring, it will be added to the total balance of your PF passbook. You can check your balance and interest sitting at home in these very easy ways.
