Cyprus President Nicos Christodoulides on Sunday shared the key achievements of his historic visit to India and praised the deepening bilateral relations between New Delhi and Nicosia. He especially emphasized that this partnership between the two countries is already working very actively in important areas like security, defense and economic connectivity.

Beginning of a new era of strategic partnership, signing of 6 important agreements


India and Cyprus have given a historic height to their mutual relations and have taken it to the level of ‘strategic partnership’. A comprehensive roadmap for the year 2026-2031 has been prepared to further deepen defense and security cooperation between the two countries. Along with this, it has also been agreed to start a cyber security dialogue and a consular dialogue between the two countries.


A total of six important agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during the visit of President Christodoulides. Major announcements of this tour include.



  • Cyprus joining the ‘Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative’ under the “Trade, Connectivity and Maritime Transport” pillar.

  • Gifting of ‘BHISM’ (BHISAM – Bharat Health Initiative for Cooperation, Interest and Friendship) Cube Hospital to Nicosia by India.

  • To give a new impetus to economic relations, Cyprus announced the opening of a new ‘Cyprus Trade Centre’ in the country’s financial capital Mumbai.


Furthermore, the President of Cyprus strongly supported the ‘India-Middle East-East Europe Economic Corridor’ (IMEC) as a visionary initiative and appreciated the strengthening India-European Union (EU) relations.


Meaningful conversation with PM Modi and President Murmu


Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the talks with Cyprus as very positive and said that our friendship is a strong and future-oriented partnership based on shared values. There were detailed discussions between the two countries on increasing cooperation in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, technology and financial services. PM Modi said that along with defense and security, enhancing cultural and people-to-people relations will be the main basis of this friendship.


At the same time, President Draupadi Murmu organized a state banquet at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the honor of the President of Cyprus. During this, President Murmu said that Cyprus can play a big role in enhancing economic cooperation between India and Europe during its upcoming Presidency of the European Union Council, especially after the completion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). He appreciated Cyprus’ stance in the fight against terrorism and reiterated India’s unwavering support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Cyprus.


India and Cyprus are going to complete 65 years of their diplomatic relations in the year 2027. Officials believe that this visit of President Christodoulides will prove to give a new pace and new direction to the cooperation between the two countries.
