Sunrisers Hyderabad experienced a nightmare outing against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, suffering their biggest defeat by runs in the IPL history. Chasing a target of 169, SRH were bowled out for just 86 in 14.5 overs, losing the match by 82 runs.
The pitch in Ahmedabad was very different from the high-scoring surfaces seen in many IPL 2026 matches. Batting was difficult from the beginning as the new ball offered movement for the fast bowlers. Gujarat Titans pacers Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj made full use of the conditions and reduced SRH to 34/4 inside the Powerplay.
Despite the challenging pitch, SRH’s batters continued playing aggressive shots and failed to adjust their approach. Big hitters like Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen could not make an impact as the team slumped to its fifth defeat of the season.
In comparison, GT’s batters showed patience and handled the conditions smartly. B Sai Sudharsan played a steady knock of 61 from 44 balls, while Washington Sundar added an important 50 off 33 deliveries to help Gujarat Titans post 168/5.
After the match, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla questioned SRH’s ultra-aggressive batting style. He tweeted, “When you only need to score 160 runs, why lose a wicket by trying to hit sixes right from the start?”

SRH captain Pat Cummins ended up as the team’s top scorer with just 19 runs from 9 balls.
For Gujarat Titans, Jason Holder took 3/20 and Kagiso Rabada picked up 3/28 as GT moved to the top of the IPL 2026 standings with a dominant performance.
