President Droupadi Murmu presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards 2026 to nursing professionals at Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 12, marking International Nurses Day.





In her address, the President said the occasion honours the invaluable contribution of nursing personnel and healthcare professionals who serve the nation with compassion and dedication. She commended the awardees for their inspiring devotion to duty and their role in delivering quality healthcare even under challenging conditions.


Instituted in 1973 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the awards recognise meritorious service rendered by nurses across India. The ceremony celebrated their commitment to patient care and their crucial role in strengthening the country’s healthcare system.


President Murmu emphasised that nursing professionals exemplify the highest standards of service and remain the backbone of healthcare delivery. She urged continued focus on skill development and ethical practice to meet the evolving needs of modern medicine.
