New Delhi. After IPL 2026, the Indian cricket team has to play a major series against Afghanistan on home soil. This tour will include one Test match and three ODI International matches, for which discussions have intensified regarding the possible squad. The Test match will start from June 6 to June 10 at Mullanpur Stadium in New Chandigarh, while the ODI series will be played from June 14 to June 20. ODI matches will be organized in Dharamshala, Lucknow and Chennai.
According to sources, the command of the Test team may remain in the hands of Shubman Gill. It is almost certain that Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul will get a place as the opening pair. Devdutt Padikkal, Rishabh Pant and captain Shubman Gill can strengthen the team in the middle order.
Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patel and Nitish Kumar Reddy may get a chance as all-rounders. Kuldeep Yadav can play a key role in the spin department, while in fast bowling, names like Mohammad Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akashdeep and Anshul Kamboj can be considered. Apart from this, Sai Sudarshan is likely to be included as a backup batsman.
Regarding the ODI squad, the selectors will also keep an eye on the IPL performance and some new faces may get a chance. At present, the final decision regarding the team selection will be announced soon by the selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI, on which everyone’s eyes are fixed.
