LSG were humbled by six wickets at the hands of MI in Match 47 of IPL 2026. Despite setting a target of 229, they lost to the five-time winners with eight balls to spare. This was LSG’s 6th straight loss in this season and overall, they have lost seven out of nine matches. With only two wins to their name, LSG are in last position on the points table with five games left to play and 23 encounters left in the league phase of IPL 2026.

LSG Can Still Enter Playoffs

But believe it or not, even now Rishabh Pant’s men have a chance to finish in the top four and enter the Playoffs. Yes, all hope is not lost just yet. There is very much a chance for them to enter the next round and have a shot at a maiden title in only their 5th season.

What Must LSG Do?

So what do they need to do in order to enter the Playoffs? Well, to finish at least fourth, LSG must win all of their remaining five games. But even that itself may not be enough as other results also come into play. PBKS are on 13 points while RR, SRH, RCB and GT are on 12. LSG can achieve a maximum of 14. So they need to hope that no more than three teams reach or cross 14 at the top. If more than three do then net run rate comes into play and LSG’s current one is very poor. So their wins have to be pretty big.

LSG Face Uphill Battle

Mathematically, LSG still have a chance but one more loss pretty much knocks them out of the race as they can only achieve 12. Again, they will have to rely on other results to go their way plus hope for a superior net run rate. Should they lose more than one then they are out of the race altogether as a maximum tally of 10 is not enough to make it to the top four.

Time to Start Winning

On the other hand, five out of five wins give LSG a chance to be fourth. The odds of them being in the top two are less so a 3rd or 4th place finish shall be a good outcome. They are one of three franchises who have never won the title and are taking part in this season but the wins have to start coming.

LSG Face RCB Next in IPL 2026

LSG’s next game is vs defending champions RCB on May 7. RCB are 2nd at the moment. The last-placed team has its back to the wall but there is no better time to fight back. While the odds of LSG finishing in the top four are less, they are not zero. So do not be suprised to see them in the next round.
