A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar district after five children climbed a high water tank to shoot a social media reel, leading to a fatal accident and a dramatic overnight rescue.
According to officials, the incident took place in the Kanshiram Residential Colony on Saturday. While attempting to climb up, the ladder of the tank broke, causing three children—identified as Siddharth, Sunny, and Golu—to fall from the height. Siddharth succumbed to severe injuries, while the other two were rushed to Madhav Prasad Tripathi Medical College, where they are reported to be out of danger.
Meanwhile, two children—Pawan and Kallu—remained stranded atop the tank for nearly 16 hours.
Local residents alerted authorities, following which rescue efforts began. District Magistrate Shivsharanappa said attempts were made overnight to build an alternate ladder, but muddy ground conditions made it impossible.
As a result, authorities sought help from the Indian Air Force. In a carefully coordinated operation, an IAF Mi-17 V5 helicopter was deployed early Sunday morning. Around 5:30 am, both stranded children were successfully rescued and brought to safety.
The District Magistrate confirmed that the operation was carried out in close coordination between the state administration and Air Force officials, with constant communication ensuring the mission’s success.
The Indian Air Force Central Air Command stated that the rescue was launched following a request from state authorities after the children were left stranded due to the damaged ladder.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with risky social media stunts, especially among children.
