Tumakuru (Karnataka): A 40-year-old man allegedly killed his two minor sons and died by suicide in this district, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred at Alakere village under Kunigal police station limits, they said.
Shivanna and his sons, aged 6 and 11, were found dead at their residence this morning.
According to police, Shivanna, who worked at a private factory and also served as a priest at a village temple, was reportedly distressed over his wife Kavya’s alleged illicit relationship with a man identified as Hemanth.
The issue had led to ongoing domestic disputes, and a counselling session had earlier been conducted involving police and local community members, Superintendent of Police, Tumakuru, Ashok K V told reporters here.
"Despite the intervention, the affair reportedly continued, which allegedly upset Shivanna. When no one else was at home, he first smothered his two children and then hung himself,” he said.
A case of murder has been registered against Shivanna for killing his children, based on a complaint filed by a relative, the officer said.
Additionally, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered against his wife Kavya and Hemanth, the SP said.
"We will arrest the accused and carry out further investigation before filing the charge sheet at the earliest. Further investigation is underway," he added.
