Paytm Payments Bank: Of the funds currently stuck in the bank, half are held in frozen accounts, while the remaining ₹400 crore remains unclaimed. This situation has remained unchanged for the past year.

Paytm Payments Bank: A highly startling piece of news has emerged from the digital banking sector. The matter concerns approximately ₹800 crore belonging to customers that remains stuck in Paytm Payments Bank—even though nearly two years have passed since the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed restrictions on its operations.

₹400 Crore Unclaimed

According to a report by CNBC-TV18, even two years after operations were halted, over ₹800 crore of customers' money remains stuck in Paytm Payments Bank. According to sources, roughly half of the currently stuck funds are held in accounts that have been frozen.

Meanwhile, the remaining ₹400 crore consists of funds that no one has claimed to date. What is also surprising is that there has been no significant reduction in the unclaimed amount over the past year. This implies that, despite multiple reminders, customers have made no attempt to withdraw these funds or file a claim for them.

The Bank Had a Strong Customer Base

Prior to the regulatory action, the bank held deposits exceeding ₹5,500 crore; this figure has now dwindled to just ₹800 crore. The bank also boasted a massive customer base, comprising approximately 350 million (35 crore) accounts. Subsequently, only about 100–105 million (10–10.5 crore) of these accounts remained active, while the rest were converted into frozen, dormant, or 'mule' accounts.

Sources stated that the Reserve Bank of India had directed the Paytm Group to actively engage with its users—a directive that included sending out alerts and reminders to facilitate the withdrawal of their deposited funds. It is worth noting that the Reserve Bank has officially revoked the banking license of Paytm Payments Bank, effective April 24, 2026.

How to Withdraw Funds?

If your account has not been frozen, you can withdraw your funds as usual by transferring them to another bank account, or by transferring money from your Wallet to a bank account.
If, for any reason, you are unable to access the app, you must visit the official PPBL website and fill out a Claim Form. You will need your Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, and a cancelled cheque to complete this process.
