Casualty star Kirsty Mitchell has revealed she would not be as forgiving as her on-screen alter ego on the long-running BBC medical drama Faith Cadogan. In recent weeks, fans have seen her relationship with her husband, Iain Dean, deteriorate after he confessed he didn't love her and that he was trying to fix her. Despite this, Faith has been trying to keep things civil between the pair for their baby's sake. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk and others, Kirsty revealed she couldn't get over what Iain did.
"I think they are great together, and they get on very well, and they're very good friends, and when they're happy, they're really happy. But I would take some more distance after a baby and dealing with stuff," she pondered. "I'm quite a sensitive soul, so somebody saying to me, I was just trying to fix you, and I don't love you, would be something that would breed inside my heart, and it would sit there," she said.
Despite her personal feelings, she believes Faith really does want to get back with Iain despite everything, but she has concerns.
"I think when you hold on to something that a partner says that really hurts you, I think that just plays and plays and plays in her mind," the actress said.
"And so she does want to get back together, but she's insecure. She still loves him. They love each other, but he slept with someone else even when they were thinking about getting back together.
"She's so hurt that she's just trying to protect herself and the baby at this point, and she feels that he's not reliable and he's not got it together," she reflected.
While relations may be strained between the pair, they do have a baby binding them together, but Kirsty is not convinced that it is enough to repair the damage.
"It's not a band-aid, but it's something that can make them, calmly, have a conversation about what's happening, because it's now real. It is calmer between them, and they get some perspective.
"And I think for Iain, he doesn't have kids of his own until this one arrives, and so it's gonna feel 100 times different for him.
But she knows what being a single parent is, so I think she is trying to be practical as well as guarded. And Iain, at this point, is going through every emotion which she's trying to understand."
