In an incredible encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won on by 10 runs in the 27th game of the IPL 2026 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a game that could have gone either way until the final over.

Abhishek, Klaasen Power SRH to 194

Sent into bat by CSK, SRH had a rapid start thanks to Abhishek Sharma, who bludgeoned a brilliant 59 in only 22 balls. The left-hander was a man on a mission as he hammered 6 fours and 4 sixes to give his side an explosive 75 at the end of the powerplay, and Travis Head gave support from the other end with a 23 in quick time. While they continued to score quickly in the 5th over, they also lost 2 crucial wickets in the over (including Ishan Kishan for a golden duck).

The experienced Heinrich Klaasen was the anchor for the team as he played a valuable knock of 59 in 39 balls, building crucial partnerships in the middle order which ensured the SRH never really lost their way, and handy cameos from Nitish Kumar Reddy (12) and some useful late contributions from Shivang Kumar ensured the hosts finished the innings well, at 194/9.

For the CSK, their leading pacer Jamie Overton and Anshul Kamboj picked up 3 wickets apiece, but they were unable to contain the SRH batting.

CSK Fall Short Despite Aggressive Start

Chasing 195 for the win, CSK had an electrifying start with Sanju Samson smacking a six early on, however the rapid fall of wickets ensured that the momentum was killed in the initial stages of the game. Ayush Mhatre came into the fold and smashed a brilliant 30 off just 13 deliveries and kept the chase alive during the powerplay along with Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Following the initial collapse, Matthew Short (34) and Sarfaraz Khan (25) tried to rebuild the inning, however a flurry of wickets pushed the CSK batsmen back in the contest. The backbone of the chase was broken with Eshan Malinga clinching three important wickets in his spell, dismissing Gaikwad, Short and Sarfaraz in quick succession.

Shivam Dube (21) and Jamie Overton (16) played out a decent late fightback but SRH maintained their nerves in the closing stages of the inning. In the end, the lower order collapsed to hand SRH a 10-run victory, with CSK finishing on 184/8.

The SRH bowling unit looked disciplined, Nitish Kumar Reddy clinched two wickets while Shivang Kumar was among the wickets with one as well. It was a performance which saw Eshan Malinga bag the Player of the Match award.
