Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Ladies First, but subscribers are convinced they have already seen this story before.
Due to premiere on Friday, May 22, on Netflix, Ladies First centres on "ladies man" Damien (played by Sacha Baron Cohen), who awakens in a parallel world ruled by women.
"With the rules of engagement changed, he goes head-to-head with a fiery female colleague in a playful satire about what happens when the script is flipped", the synopsis reads.
The trailer depicts Damien struggling to adapt to this seismic social shift, while his formerly reserved employee Alex (Rosamund Pike) has become the no-nonsense CEO of his company.
Shortly after the teaser's release, YouTube viewers wasted no time heading to the comments section to highlight the striking similarities with Mel Gibson's 2000 romcom What Women Want.
"Isn't this just an updated version of what women want but way more cringe?", one user questioned.
Another replied: "I don't think it is possible to make a more cringe version of What Women Want. At best this would be a lateral move."
A further viewer declared that Ladies First was "if What Women Want had a baby with [the] Barbie [movie].", while another wrote: "What Women Want did this way better 20 something years ago."
What Women Want, which also starred Helen Hunt, Sarah Paulson and Judy Greer, follows "chauvinistic" advertising executive Nick, who is furious when a woman secures a senior position over him.
His world is turned completely upside down when Nick unexpectedly develops the ability to read women's minds.
Others have also drawn comparisons between the film and the French Netflix production I Am Not An Easy Man, with some believing it to be a remake of the original.
Despite the unfavourable comparisons, many are eagerly anticipating seeing Pike and Cohen share the screen in Ladies First.
While conceding it appears "cringy", one Netflix enthusiast posted: "The two leads are perfectly cast."
Another remarked: "I love Rosamund and Sacha", while someone else concurred: "I see Rosamund Pike and I click." A fellow viewer added: "This is absolutely amazing.
"I'm so excited there is already a French version of this movie that I think was made around 2022 on Netflix but I can't wait to see this version."
Ladies First premieres on Friday, May 22, on Netflix.
