Netflix viewers have been left baffled by the title of a new documentary.

The fresh film explores the private life of former NBA star Lamar Odom, chronicling his near-death experience in October 2015.Following a stellar basketball career, Lamar was discovered unresponsive at a brothel outside Las Vegas.

Featuring never-before-heard interviews and first-hand testimonies, the documentary recounts the story of his brush with death through the perspectives of Lamar, his ex-wife Khloe Kardashian and the former manager of the brothel where he was found.

The film has triggered controversy just hours after landing on Netflix because its title, Untold: The Death and Life of Lamar Odom, appears to imply that Lamar is dead.

No, Lamar Odom is not dead. The film's title is referring to his brush with death, reports the Mirror.

10 years ago, the 46-year-old suffered a near-fatal overdose and experienced kidney failure, 12 strokes and six heart attacks. He was placed in a medically induced coma for several days.

According to the New York native, doctors weren't optimistic about his recovery, and even advised his family to say their final goodbyes.

When he awoke, Lamar was regarded as a 'miracle'. "All of my doctors say I'm like a walking miracle because it's, like, medically impossible for somebody to survive 12 strokes and six heart attacks while in a coma," he told USA Today ahead of the documentary's premiere.

"And so I just take it day by day, and I'm more than grateful for life."

While the title makes sense in the context of the sports star's story, viewers have criticised it for being misleading.

Commenting beneath a Netflix clip of Khloe detailing Lamar's drug addiction battle, one fan remarked: "The dude is not dead... wtf?!?"

Another social media user contributed: "Why they said the death and life of the Lamar Odom like he's dead," while a third shared: "Hell nah... the title of this documentary is a mindf**k... I thought he died... I quickly jumped on Google to see when."

Someone else concurred: "It's the name of the show for me ...yeah he died for a minute but he is still living...".

With yet another viewer responding: "Right like had me second guessing if this man was still alive or not," and a final commenter noting: "l was so confused with this title at first had me second guessing."
