Fans of The Pitt are discovering that one of Fiona Dourif's recent roles involved portraying her own father in an underrated horror series.
Fiona has swiftly become a viewer favourite for her performance as second-year resident doctor and single mother Dr Cassie McKay in HBO's acclaimed medical drama fronted by ER's Noah Wyle.
Following considerable success in the United States, the first series of The Pitt is now finally accessible in the UK, with fresh series two episodes broadcasting weekly, courtesy of the international rollout of HBO Max.
Each instalment follows an hour during a single, 15-hour shift in a hectic emergency department in Pittsburgh, progressively building towards a dramatic event while gradually revealing more about the doctors and medical students' private lives.
While Dr McKay's storyline has gripped audiences, many of them may be unaware that actress Fiona is the daughter of Brad Dourif, a horror cinema legend for his role as the voice of the possessed doll Chucky in the Child's Play franchise, reports the Mirror.
Brad's daughter has featured in subsequent instalments of the series as psychiatric patient Nica Pierce, including in the Syfy and USA Network programme which serves as a continuation to the films and ran for three series between 2021-2024.
Nevertheless, fans have been astonished to discover that, in addition to playing Nica, Fiona also depicts a younger version of Charles Lee Ray, the serial killer whose soul inhabits the titular Good Guy doll, in flashbacks set in the 1980s. The production employed a wig and heavy makeup to accomplish the transformation, with her father Brad supplying the voice.
"They showed me a mirror and I kind of freaked out," Fiona recalled in an interview with People.
"Actually, I don't even know. I haven't begun to unpack all of the feelings I had. There was a lot of them. I remember I smoked a cigarette for the first time in six months. I was just like, 'Oh my God, I can't get this off my face'."
Brad also shared: "The first time I saw what she looked like... I was looking at some footage and I go, 'I don't remember doing that.' I mean, she was weird, and she was exactly like me. Her accent was a little different, but she was exactly like me."
Viewers have been utterly captivated by the revelation after a fan shared a still image of the actress in character as the menacing killer across social media.
"Holy s***, is that purely just hair and makeup? Uncanny," one X user responded.
"It's uncanny how she really [looks] like her younger father," another concurred.
"Her range is unmatched. She played so many characters in Chucky," someone else noted, while a final fan contributed: "Blew my mind when I realized this as I watched!"
HBO's newly released and critically lauded medical drama The Pitt may occupy an entirely different genre, yet Chucky devotees will discover plenty to relish in this visceral, frenetic, and unrelenting new series.
The Pitt season 2 continues Thursdays on HBO Max.
