A neighbor of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, reported observing a suspicious individual in their Tucson neighborhood weeks prior to the 84-year-old's mysterious disappearance. The neighbor, who goes by Aldine, shared her account during an interview on a news investigation program. She noted that the man seemed out of place in the typically serene Catalina Foothills area.
Aldine recounted seeing the man through her bathroom window approximately two weeks before Guthrie went missing on January 31. “He was dressed in casual street clothes, not suitable for walking, and wore a baseball cap pulled down low,” she described. “He appeared hunched over, scanning the surroundings, and just didn’t seem to belong.”
She further mentioned that the man moved at a slow pace, paying particular attention to one street. “He wasn’t walking briskly like someone exercising; he was moving slowly and took a long look at that street as he passed by,” Aldine added.
Investigation Points to Possible KidnappingThe search for Guthrie has involved multiple agencies, including local law enforcement and the FBI, following her last known sighting at her home in Catalina Foothills. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos indicated that evidence suggests Guthrie “did not leave voluntarily.” He later informed a media outlet that authorities suspect she may have been a target of a kidnapping.
Officials have also highlighted that Guthrie needs daily medication, which could pose serious health risks if not taken within a 24-hour period. Aldine reported her sighting to the authorities, including the FBI, despite not being able to clearly identify the man’s face. “It really unsettled me,” she admitted. “I’m not usually easily alarmed, but it struck me as odd.”
In the aftermath of her disappearance, ransom notes were reportedly sent to various news organizations. Savannah Guthrie expressed gratitude to supporters via an Instagram message, stating: “We feel the love and prayers from our neighbors, the Tucson community, and across the nation. Please continue to pray and hope with us. Bring her home.”
