Sad photos reveal the decaying state of the leisure centre Oasis derived its name from. The Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon, Wiltshire, has been left to rot since October 2020, when its owner SevenCapital deemed it "not viable" because of the pandemic. New images reveal its neglected state, with attractions covered in grime and weeds. The name of the family park, which was listed on an Inspiral Carpets tour poster hanging in Liam Gallagher's room, inspired him to change the name of the band he had with his brother Noel from The Rain to Oasis.
Now, discussions regarding the site's future between SevenCapital and the local council have left locals frustrated. Campaigners argue the once-bustling site is rapidly decaying while it sits idle. A group named Group Save Oasis Swindon have now circulated images of the neglected venue, revealing murky, mouldy waters and overgrown weeds.
The group said: "Why are SevenCapital not keeping a grade II listed building in a good state of repair?
"And why are Swindon Borough Council doing nothing nearly six years on?"
The council confirmed it is still in talks with SevenCapital over the future of the site.
In December, a draft agreement between Swindon Borough Council and the developer was published online. It stated the centre would not be allowed to reopen until SevenCapital contributed £18,000 towards local bus service upgrades.
The company is also required to pay £35,000 for improvements to the Western Flyer cycle route, as well as fund and maintain landscaped public space at the site.
A separate document released a month later confirmed that planning approval had been granted for the partial demolition of the leisure centre and the construction of new building elements.

Damien Siviter, group managing director at Seven Capital, previously said: "We're in a position now where we have to consider the viability of the whole scheme."
Steve Handley from Seven Capital said last summer that they had amended their plans after an extensive public consultation.
He said: "We can bring back to life the Oasis to benefit the community and Swindon."
Councillor Jim Robbins, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: "We remain committed to doing everything we can to get a refurbished Oasis pool and slides back open again for people to enjoy.
"It is an absolute priority. The three planning decisions approved by the Planning Committee were formally issued a few weeks ago. We'll continue to work closely with SevenCapital, and I am hopeful there will be some positive progress in the coming months."
