Furious Daniel Farke was sent off in the aftermath of Leeds' narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester City. Leeds boss Farke stormed over to Peter Bankes after the referee blew for full-time at Elland Road.

Before the German even reached Bankes, he pulled out his red card. Farke, 49, continued to remonstrate with Bankes about a number of decisions, and he had to be pulled away by Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Both sets of players were then involved in somewhat of a melee. City manager Pep Guardiola had to intervene while Farke chose to do a lap of the pitch and applaud Leeds' fans.

Leeds assistant Eddie Riemer replaced Farke at Leeds' post-match press conference and explained: "I just had a short chat with him... There were incidents, they were time wasting, I think they could have even given a corner for counting down too long several times.

"There was a yellow card in extra time, six minutes (added) on, I think it's five seconds to go and then you don't allow to put... be sensible, let (us) put the last ball in. And then of course you are emotional, that's what the game is all about as well. He runs on the pitch and says, 'For what?' and this is why he gets a sending off. Emotions play a big part in this game. He rarely gets sent off."

Antoine Semenyo scored the decisive goal for Guardiola's side, who were missing the injured Erling Haaland, as they moved to within two points of leaders Arsenal in the Premier League title race. The result extended Leeds' run without a win to three games, with Farke's team only six points above the relegation zone.

Semenyo hailed City's win, telling Sky Sports: "Definitely a big one. Every game is a big one until the end of the season. We just want to win as many as we can and keep the pressure on.

"They made it tough, lots of crosses. They have a lot of guys who are good in the box good aerially, we wanted to make good contact and put them off and clear our lines."

Guardiola added on the victory: "We make a thousand million passes and we controlled the transition and then in the last 20 minutes we created a little bit more. Huge victory to still be there."
