On February 20, 2026, a fire broke out in Nilgiri Block of Aditya Enclave (also known as Maithrivanam Complex), a G+5 commercial building in the busy Ameerpet area of Hyderabad. There are many IT coaching institutes and shops in this building. According to police, fire officials and multiple reports from Times of India, The Hindu, Telangana Today, Zee News and others, the fire, which broke out around 11:00–11:30 am, caused panic, but **no casualties or injuries**.

**Rescue operation** included teams from Hyderabad Fire Services, HYDRAA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency) Disaster Response Force (DRF) and initial efforts of local people. About **50 students** (some reports say 40+, 70–80+, or as many as 90) of an IT/computer coaching institute – mostly on the second floor, though some mention upper floors – were trapped due to thick smoke spreading from the ground floor. Firefighters used ladders to get them to safety; Some students left the balcony before the arrival of the official teams. Shops in the complex were closed, and students from other institutes were sent home.

Initial investigation revealed that the fire was caused by an **electrical short circuit** in a panel board or cable on the ground floor, due to which smoke quickly spread to the upper floors. HYDRAA Commissioner **A.V. Ranganath** inspected the site, confirmed the cause of the short-circuit, and reported that accumulation of garbage in the balcony hindered the rescue, which could have worsened the situation. Luckily, the fire did not spread much, thus a major accident was averted.

Ranganath spoke about the recent joint drive by HYDRAA, Fire Services, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the Electricity Department to enforce fire safety norms in commercial buildings. Rule breakers have been given a month to comply, and from next month intensified inspections and checking will be introduced to prevent further incidents in this densely populated educational hub.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact rule broken.
