A police cordon is in place in Kenton, Newcastle, as armed cops lock down Hillview Avenue. Armed police have descended on a residential street in Newcastle with officers in tactical gear seen carrying weapons as a major emergency response continues.

A section of Hillview Avenue in Kenton was taped off on Wednesday afternoon, with multiple police vehicles, vans and an undercover car at the scene. Witnesses reported shouting coming from a property while neighbours were urged to stay away from the area as officers carried out an operation. Emergency services, including fire crews stationed nearby at Kenton Sports Centre, were also seen in the area. Northumbria Police has been approached for a statement.
