Synopsis

Indonesia has launched its own digital commerce network, the Indonesia Open Network or ION. This initiative draws inspiration from India's successful Open Network for Digital Commerce or ONDC. ION aims to significantly reduce transaction fees for businesses. This move is expected to foster more inclusive digital commerce across the Indonesian archipelago.

Move to strengthen competitiveness of Indonesian MSMEs
New Delhi: Southeast Asia's biggest state has launched Indonesia Open Network (ION), based on India's experience with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).

"ION is built on the lessons from ONDC in India but tailored to Indonesia's needs. Network fees will be much lower than conventional platforms that can charge up to 20%. On ION, fees are only around 2-3%," Indian ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakraborty mentioned at a forum last week.

Under the theme 'Digital Archipelago: Building Inclusive Digital Commerce in Indonesia', the forum brought together government leaders, private sector representatives and international partners.
